Stack1: The Glass of Fashion

In 2008 Gabriella was commissioned by The Royal
Albert Memorial Museum Exeter through the New Expressions project
to work with the ethnography department on a project to explore
aspects of Identity and Status through investigation of the museum’s
collection, in store for the 3 year duration of the rebuilding of
the museum.
The resulting artwork is based on Gabriella’s study of the
methods of storage and accessioning used in the department, study
of the Sheila Unwin collection of African Beadwork and as a result
of these investigations deciding to work with people who identify
themselves through their clothing as being on the margins of today’s
society.
Stack1: The Glass of Fashion will be shown in
“Token Values” Devon Guild of Craftsmen, Bovey Tracy.
July/August 2009, will travel to Devon Schools as part of RAMM’s
“Small World” outreach project and will be on display
at RAMM once the museum re-opens.
